AN ORIANA SONGBOOK - AN EASY AND SATISFYING READ

Last Sunday’s performance of Oriana Choir’s An Oriana Songbook, at Stella Maris Performance Centre, was a total delight for performers and audience alike. From the full-throated, full-volume, full-on declaration, “I will be the gladdest thing!”, to the sheer, ecstatic exuberance of the finale, “Go Where I Send Thee”, Oriana Choir delivered nearly two hours of joyous, uplifting, beautiful music – music of such variety, such emotional breadth and depth, and touching on so many moods – that it really touched the hearts and spirits of the near three hundred people who were there.

Many people expressed how much they enjoyed the concert. Some commented on the choir’s beautiful, controlled a cappella singing; the tightness of the presentation, evidenced by the precision of the singers’ entries and cutoffs, and great dynamic control; the excellent presentation of the Sunshine Coast Youth Choir’s three most enjoyable numbers; and the undeniable fact that Oriana’s members were deriving immense enjoyment from their performing.

A splendid time was guaranteed for all, and Oriana surely delivered on that promise.

If you weren’t able to be there, do not despair. This coming Saturday, at 1.00pm at St. Patrick’s Church in Gympie, you will have another opportunity to enjoy this wonderful experience, as Oriana brings you a second helping of this soul-nourishing musical banquet. St Patrick’s has such a wonderful acoustic, and such a warm, welcoming atmosphere, that the reading and digesting of An Oriana Songbook will be, in a word, effortless.
