A Recipe for Musical Delights

This weekend, Oriana Choir is cooking up something enticing, exciting, and very special. For the discerning music lover (and that means anyone who enjoys good music, whatever its source or genre), the Choir is presenting a performance that is virtually guaranteed to thrill your aural taste buds – not too little, not too much, but just enough to delight and satisfy. (Although, if you are left wishing there were more, we will not be displeased!)

How does one prepare such a musical culinary treat? Well, obviously one needs the right ingredients. Here they are:

  • Two seasoned and proven choral masterworks, provided by one of the twentieth century’s most loved choral composers and arrangers, namely Sir John Rutter, CBE – his magnificent Magnificat and remarkable Requiem

  • For spice and variety, add a lovely new version of the Eucharistic chant, “Ave verum corpus”, composed and arranged by one of Oriana’s own, Gabrielle Deschamps

  • One conductor and music director, the brilliant, tireless Kim Kirkman

  • One equally brilliant rehearsal accompanist, Fay Baker, OAM

  • One chamber orchestra, comprising members of the wonderful Sinfonia of St. Andrew’s

  • One fifty-something piece choir. But not just any choir. No, it’s the acclaimed Oriana Choir, for whom performing music as wonderful as this, is nearly as important and necessary as breathing

  • Several months’ worth of intense learning and rehearsal

  • A couple of proven venues in which to serve the ‘dish’

  • An audience of music lovers, hungry for sustenance

Method:

Take the Choir, accompanist and director/conductor, mix in the rehearsal, and stir, slowly at first, then more vigorously as the rehearsal time works its way through the mix. Add in an intensive session with the orchestra, let the mixture sit for 3-4 days then give it one final, gentle ‘pre-peak’ stir, add the audience, and serve. After 80 minutes or so, audience, choir, orchestra, conductor, and anyone else within hearing distance should be totally satisfied.

It's all happening tomorrow and Sunday. Come and enjoy! You’ll be so glad that you did.
