Musical Director, Daniel Pamenter-Calder and Accompanist, Fay Baker

A graduate of the Queensland University of Technology with degrees in both Music and Education, Daniel studied both classical and modern voice as well as piano. Daniel has a special love of choral music and is highly regarded for his work within the community choir movement in Queensland. From 1999 to 2002, Daniel conducted the renowned Blackstone-Ipswich Cambrian Choir Inc., one of the oldest community choral bodies in Australia. He is a past Musical Director of the Caloundra Chorale and Theatre Company, leading them to “Champion Choir” status at the 2005 Queensland Eisteddfod.

In 2005, Daniel founded The Oriana Concert Choir who have performed to acclaim in Brisbane and in regional Queensland, presenting a wide variety of repertoire from baroque and classical oratorio to modern 20th century choral revues. Under Daniel’s baton, The Oriana Concert Choir has been recorded by 4MBS FM in Brisbane, been broadcast nationally on ABC Classic FM and at the 2009 Queensland Eisteddfod was also awarded “Champion Choir” status.

In 2001, Daniel was acknowledged as one of Queensland’s “leading choral conductors” and he is in high demand as a choral clinician and adjudicator.

Accompanist

Official Accompanist and Assistant Conductor:  Fay Baker LRAM ARCM

Fay studied piano and cello at the Royal Academy of Music in London. In Australia her career began as an accompanist in the Vocal Departments of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and the University of Queensland. For many years she was the accompanist of the Brisbane Chorale, the Conservatorium Chamber Singers and the University of Queensland Chamber Choir. Fay was principal accompanist for the International Choral Conducting Schools in 1999 and 2000 in Brisbane, and also accompanist at the International Workshops held at the QCM in July 2001.

In 1999 Fay and her husband Howard moved to the Sunshine Coast. Fay became the accompanist and then Assistant Conductor of the Sunshine Coast Choral Society. After five years Fay decided to retire from choral accompanying. Then, towards the end of 2006, she attended a concert of Oriana Concert Choir and was hooked! She became a member in February, 2007, working as Assistant Conductor and Assistant Accompanist. At the beginning of 2010 Fay became the official accompanist of Oriana. In her spare time Fay paints in watercolour and has had some successes in local and Brisbane art shows.

Managment Committee

President: Melissa Innes 

A business graduate of Queensland University of Technology, and Human Resource Consultant, Melissa undertakes research assistance and part-time tutoring at The University of the Sunshine Coast as well as being mum to four little boys. Melissa has a passion for choral music and singing, and a strong respect for the importance of not-for-profit organisations in our community. She loves spending every spare moment with her family at Mooloolaba beach or entertaining family and friends on her back deck with husband Peter and all her boys by her side. Melissa enjoys every aspect of the President's role and fulfills this demanding leadership position with skills developed during her diverse career in Project Management and Human Resource Management.

Secretary: Ruth Fincher

Ruth is a part time Administration Officer, mother of two grown up boys and partner of one of our choir members. She has always had a love of music and has participated in choirs and numerous musical theatre productions for many years. Ruth enjoys being both an active member of the Oriana Concert Choir and also the challenging and fulfilling role of managing the choir's administrative affairs.

Treasurer: Nettie Knox

This retired school administrator and community volunteer manages all the finances of the incorporation. When she is not busy with her volunteer commitments, Nettie loves gardening, camping, bushwalking, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Vice President: Howard Baker

A retired financial executive and management consultant, Howard is responsible for sourcing and applying for grants to help fund the choirs’ operations. He also has a pivotal role in organising our 2012 tour of Europe which fits in well with his love of travel. Outside of choir you can usually find Howard at one or other of the local bridge clubs.

Publicist: Sharon Fitness

Sharon works full-time as program manager for the Australian Christian Channel, as well as dabbling in design and public relations consultancy with her own business, Joyful Media. Sharon enjoys singing, zumba, tap-dancing, vintage clothes shopping, ebay treasure hunting and cooking and is an avid movie buff. Sharon is a founding member of Oriana and is responsible for creating all of our great ‘looks’ from season to season.

Librarian: Cath Galloway

A Primary Music Teacher, Cath has the unenviable role of maintaining our growing music library, ensuring members have everything they need for each rehearsal period and performance. Cath also acts as venue coordinator for our various events. In her spare time, Cath, who is a founding member of Oriana, loves travel, zumba, singing, acting and cooking for friends.

Membership Secretary: Kendall Snowden

A "nearly-retired" Teacher and foundation committee member of OCC, Kendall was Oriana’s first Treasurer. Kendall now enjoys her role as Membership Secretary, which keeps her in touch with all choir members. She’s also happily involved in lots of catering and fund-raising activities for OCC. 

Logistics: Joachim (Yokki) Rother

Yokki is a retired, serpent-loving cyclist, a "Jack-of-all-trades" and a foundation committee member of OCC. Along with his partner Kendall, Yokki enjoys his involvement in catering, fund-raising and something called "logistics". Basically that means Oriana would probably fall apart without all the little jobs he does here and there!

Fund Raising Coordinator: Anne Godfrey

Anne draws on many and varied experiences to develop this role with particular view to assisting the choir achieve its dream of competing on the world stage at the 2012 International Eisteddfod, Llangollen, Wales. In her other lives, Anne makes appearances as wife, mother of 4 young men and radiographer. In any crevices of time that appear in this litany of activity, Anne loves to create good food for friends, hand knitted works of art for her family, indulge her love of colour, shape and form in whatever medium is at hand and generally make sure that life is a hoot!
