Who are we?
Founded as the Oriana Concert Choir in November 2005 by Musical Director, Daniel Pamenter-Calder, the Sunshine Coast Oriana Choir, under the umbrella of Oriana Arts Inc, is based on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.
Oriana’s adult choir is an auditioned SATB choir that presented their Debut Concert to a capacity audience in April 2006. From these humble beginnings, Oriana has grown from strength to strength and after an outstanding performance at the Heritage Queensland Eisteddfod over the Easter weekend in 2009, the choir was awarded Queensland Champion Choir status.
This title followed Oriana's early success in July 2006, when they competed in ABC FM's 'National Choir of the Year Competition' and were delighted to place second at the Queensland finals. Their inaugural year culminated in grand style with a concert series presentation of Benjamin Britton's Ceremony of Carols.
In 2007, the choir undertook the challenging Symphony of Psalms by Stravinsky and performed a Sixties musical revue to sellout audiences. Record audiences also enjoyed their end of year production of Schubert's Mass in G and Vivaldi's Gloria.
Following the success of the Sixties musical revue, Oriana again performed to sellout audiences at their 2008 Seventies musical revue, and received high acclaim from Sunshine Coast residents and music reviewers alike, for their performance of Handel's Messiah in November 2008, which is available as a double CD recording.
After their Eisteddfod success of 2009, the choir was inspired to reach for the stars and the vision was conceived to tour Europe and the United Kingdom in 2012, with the intention to perform at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod in Wales. Members have been hard at work fundraising as well as producing high quality musical events including a Jazz concert, performing at Christmas Carols and, in late 2010, performing Mozart's Requiem and Haydn's Te Deum with the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra.
